OrganoWood® offers the next generation of eco-friendly wood products through its proprietary technology inspired by nature. The wood is modified by the attachment of protective silicon compounds to the wood fibres. Wood can now be protected without the use of both biocides and heavy metals which neither burn nor rot thanks to the OrganoWood® system.
FOUNDED IN SWEDEN
OrganoWood UK is a reseller of OrganoWood® products which are manufactured by parent company OrganoWood AB, a privately held company founded in 2010 by OrganoClick AB and Kvigos AB in Sweden. The company provides environmentally friendly wood products. The operations are based around its core technology in which silicon-based compounds are bound to the wood fibres by using organic catalysts. Based on this technology, products have been developed to give treated wood both an effective fire protection as well as a good resistance to rot and other fungus. The company continuously develops new wood preservative products in collaboration with senior researchers at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in Uppsala, Stockholm University and Mid-Sweden University in Sundsvall.
INSPIRED BY NATURE
Developed and inspired by the natural fossilisation process whereby natural substances such as silicon compounds penetrate the wood fibres and transform them into stone. Our environmentally friendly technology mimics and accelerate the natural process of fossilisation. Wood treated with OrganoWood® is therefore about 10% fossil and 90% wood. The fossilisation occurs primarily on the surface of the wood encapsulating the wood fibres making them inaccessible for rot fungus. Hence, the fungi do not die as in the case of using traditional wood preservatives containing biocides. Instead, a new physical barrier is created rendering it impossible for fungi to eat the fibres. As fossils (silicon) are also non-combustible, effective flame retardant properties are also achieved with this treatment.
RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
The products of OrganoWood are produced by the company’s production partner OrganoClick AB. The manufacturing plant which began its operations in 2011 is located in Stockholm and has an annual capacity of approx. 7000m3. Production happens in connection with OrganoClick’s research & development enabling faster full-scale testing of new products.
